Graf von Faber-Castell

The luxury Graf von Faber-Castell brand introduced in 1993 is based on high standards and pays particular attention to the world of writing by hand. In addition to the natural materials and timeless design, it is primarily the combination of high-quality woods with precious metals and the meticulous craftsmanship that really help make this collection unique.

Founded in 1761, Faber-Castell is currently in the 9th generation of family ownership. In the 4th generation, Baron Lothar von Faber not only made the company the leading manufacturer of wood-cased pencils in the mid-19th century, but even then also developed a wide range of writing, drawing, painting and creative tools. When his granddaughter, Baroness Ottilie von Faber, married Count Alexander zu Castell-Rüdenhausen in 1898, the King of Bavaria gave his approval to the new name Faber-Castell. Alongside Bavaria's oldest private bank, one of Germany's oldest wineries also belongs to House Castell. With its almost 1000 years of history, the Counts of Castell are amongst the oldest noble families in Germany. Two and a half centuries after carpenter Kaspar Faber laid the foundations for the company in Stein near Nuremberg, Faber-Castell celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2011. Baron Lothar von Faber was particularly influential in the development of the traditional company; he created the first branded writing instrument in the world by labelling his pencils with the company name.

The distinctive core product of this brand is the Perfect Pencil – an elegant pocket pencil that has a sharpener and eraser in its extender and under the cap. The inspiration were silver extenders that were already part of the range in the mid-19th century. The creativity and aesthetic awareness of the traditional company is not just directed towards pencils and accessories. Exclusive fountain pens made from special natural materials are also a highlight of the Graf von Faber-Castell Collection: the Pen of the Year Edition embodies the brand's standard of excellence. Since 2003, one Magnum fountain pen has been produced per year whose shaft elaborately showcases exclusive materials such as mammoth ivory, amber or gilded bog oak. Only recognised masters of their craft undertake their manufacture. The mainly hand-made nib, made from 18-carat gold with rhodium, and an iridium tip provide an incomparable writing experience. It ensures that interaction of softness, hardness, tension and elasticity that entails the pleasure of writing with a high-quality fountain pen. Each Pen of the Year is unique. It is individually numbered and presented in an exclusive wooden case with the certificate of limitation and authenticity of materials.
