MAKING L’OBJET HAAS BROTHERS . The design team at L’OBJET worked on a series of shapes for scale and function, which the brothers used as canvases for their creative fantasies.

3D-printing enabled the designs to transport from the Brothers’ studio in LA to the L’OBJET porcelain atelier in Portugal. The tendency of technology to replace the beautiful inefficiencies of the human hand is a touchy subject that feels a little nostalgic. Here, L’Objet and the Haas Brothers have mastered a balance of retaining the hand as the primary tool, while still using technology to support a complex and precise process. Pieces are slip-cast from fine porcelain, some using bespoke plaster molds so delicately detailed that they can cast only fifteen pieces in their lifetime. Hand-assembly often includes architectural manipulation of the materials using techniques unique to L’OBJET. Porcelain is teased and shaped by hand as it dries to create exquisite texture. Dinnerware is gilded three times in 24-karat gold and Platinum to achieve the perfect glow.

The level of detail and subtlety of texture evident in L’OBJET signature porcelain pieces are achievable only through specialized, hand-crafted productions. Emulating centuries of fine jewelry design and techniques, intricate gold and platinum photo frames are finished with beveled glass, satin lining and Italian leather and suede backs. High-quality hollowware pieces are hand-forged from polished stainless-steel and plated with brilliant 24K gold details. Innovative combinations of materials pair fine metals with cabochons, enamel, Swarovski crystals, and porcelain accents to comprise a collection rich in texture.Each coral centerpiece and bookend is sculpted by hand by a master artisan, plated in 24K gold and embellished with over 8,000+ hand-set red coral cabochons. Games and trays crafted from natural shell inlay and marble require skill and precision to create an impeccable finished product. The laborious production process behind these designs only allows for a limited number of pieces, and often require some patience as collectors wait for their masterpiece to be crafted.
