Description
Around 1790, Peter Biron, duke of Kurland, commissioned KPM Berlin to design and produce a magnificent dinner service. Following the sophisticated rococo style with its shells and tendrils, the ancient world had become the predominant source of inspiration. The Berlin-based manufactory produced a table service in a strictly classical form by the name of “dinner service with a classical edge”. In honor of the duke, this homage to the ideals of classical antiquity was later renamed KURLAND. Consisting of some 70 pieces, it is one of the largest dinner services made by KPM Berlin. Austerity and symmetry are combined in an ideal, striking form, which is playfully softened by a delicate border.
