Today we would like to introduce our new partner, the unique luxury German porcelain manufactory Nymphenburg, which produces handmade porcelain and creates extraordinary objects, which are timeless and exclusive. We have a great opportunity to interview the CEO, Mr. Anders Thomas, personally.

Good afternoon Mr. Thomas! First, we would like to know how come you decided to work at porcelain factory after having a rich international career working in various luxury brands?

The difference is not between international and domestic companies, but between industrial mass production and genuine manufactory work. Nymphenburg is far more cosmopolitan and flexible than one or the other luxury brand.

Was your interest in Chinese purely "economic" because China offers many opportunities for doing business, or you were fascinated by Chinese culture to learn the language?

China has a very interesting, millennia-old culture. Mastering the language is the key to understanding people and their mentality, regardless of whether you want to discover their culture or do business with them.

Please tell what makes the Purcellian Manufacture Nymphenburg different from the other manufacturers in the industry?

Nymphenburg is the only ultra-pure manufactory in the world. This means that every step from the production of the porcelain mass to the porcelain painting and gilding takes is entirely handmade process. Based on this know-how, we work together with the most creative avant-garde artists of our time - yesterday, today and in the future.

How do you choose designers for your new projects?

The worldwide fame of Nymphenburg is based on the constant quest for innovation. That is why many renowned artists come to us with spectacular designs. Often, we are the only ones who can realize their ideas. We also address others in a targeted way, as their style and their design approach are in keeping with Nymphenburg. Many artists confirm that porcelain as a material in the field of art is technically and artistically very interesting. This is the opportunity we take, and artists take it as well. Nowhere else the creators have such freedom to experiment with porcelain as in Nymphenburg.

Which markets are the most important for Nymphenburg and how important is export for the brand?

Our customers are found all over the world, so export is a crucial factor for Nymphenburg. Munich, Mumbai or Miami, every customer has different wishes and ideas. We see it as a challenge to satisfy the demands of international connoisseurship.

Nymphenburg is very different from other porcelain manufacturers. How would you describe your customers? What kind of people prefer your brand?

Nymphenburg customers are decision makers. They are self-confident, extravagant and always in search of something unique.

Do you also organize private events for your customers? If so, on which special occasions?

Some of our customers use the unique ambience of the manufactory - like the Blue Salon or the Garden of the Manufactory for weddings, birthdays or other private parties.

All your items are handmade. How long is the average production time and why?

There is no average production time at Nymphenburg. Every customer gets an individual, handcrafted object. The production time also depends very much on the complexity of a piece: To make a Ted Muehling cup in white biscuit porcelain, takes only a few days, while even the painting of a Cumberland plate - depending on the motive - can take several weeks.

Does the manufactory also make special designs upon customer requirements?

The customer is a king for us. And the client has always been our priority. Consequently, we are familiar with extravagant requests. The realization of unique pieces, which are completely customized, is therefore one of our most important tasks.

How would you describe Nymphenburg in three words?

Avant-garde since 1747

What is your favorite Nymphenburg collection and why?

My favorite piece is Clara, the rhinoceros by Peter Anton von Verschaffelt. She accompanies me at receptions, parties and on my travels throughout the world. As a "conversation piece" Clara always a reason for a nice conversation. This is how it is with Nymphenburg pieces: sometimes they can steal the show.

The online shop www.BREGNER.com distributes luxury goods throughout the whole world. Luxury is something unordinary for some of our customers, and something quite natural for the others. What is luxury for you?

To have one of the most beautiful jobs in the world, and a unique team. Everyone who works at Nymphenburg feels committed to the high artistic and craft standards. It is also about keeping our culture and the message of culture-relevant techniques to the following generations.

How do you spend your free time and where do you prefer to spend your holidays?

With my family at the lake in Sweden.

What could you wish for the customers of BREGNER Luxury & Lifestyle?

The courage to opt for custom-made pieces…. away from the mainstream.
