I would like to introduce Mr. Zaveri – Creative Director of Minawala – a famous jewelry House from Mumbai.

Mr. Zaveri, it is so great that the Minawala Jewelry House is a good partner of BREGNER Luxury & Lifestyle. Today I would like to get to know you and your brand a little bit more. I would like to begin with the history of Minawala. When did you start working with the jewelry? When did you get an idea of opening the jewelry house?

I was just 17 when I got this initiation, thus started my trajectory with a princely sum of 1200.00 US$ and a small makeshift shop in 1982. It is my client‘s kind and continued patronage that led to opening of our first boutique at Heera Panna, Mumbai in 1985. This was the first page in my book of life, which gave me a deeper understanding of design; it showed me how I had to evolve to ensure patronage of my discerning customers. To date my journey continues; it has taken me from palatial homes of Napean Sea Road, Mumbai to palaces of Sheikh’s of UAE and into Castles of Monte Carlo. Each experience has given me joy and shown me learning curves; this has been a satisfying and successful journey on all counts. Lending me a helping hand was my octogénaire friend Sabadini whom I met in Italy. He taught me the nuances of design, marketing and retailing. With every collection I have kept these features in mind to convey it all.

Can you say that your mother brought you to the world of jewelry?

“It all began with my mother…”as I always say. It was my mother, a visionary, a single parent and a daring dreamer, who, departing from traditional gold and enamel jewelry, pushed me towards diamonds in which she had seen a bright future, twenty years before Incredible India happened. Design and Quality- are two strong signatures that I have imbibed from my mother.

Do you remember the first piece, which you have created?

I created a collection named ‘Flowers in Fire’ inspired by my thoughts at the time. Working intricately with a team of two artisans, I tried to bring out the charisma of colors inherent in precious, semi-precious stones and fiery diamonds. It instantly captured the imagination of my clients and was a hit in the Indian market.

How would you describe Minawala designs?

The many years that we have been in business, we have lived out our passion by designing quality jewels for our patrons. Nothing has been more rewarding than being able to enjoy seeing our cutting edge creations on our clients - that reflect their strong personality. This has given us the encouragement to create opulence in form, classics with a contemporary twist, use extreme colors and make trend setting jewelry. It’s been a tough balancing act, but we have also ensured that we create value for money. There is nothing quite so fulfilling as turning imagination into reality, and that’s what we do!

Can you give the definition of the name Minawala?

With Minawala, you get nothing less than jewels of passion – drawing natural attention and pure adulation. Everything on offer at our stores is conceptualized and crafted in house. Our motto is “If we do not make it, we do not offer it!”… No jewel is outsourced and then sold in our stores, unlike other competing jewelers.

How would you describe the perfect jewelry, if there is one?

The International Collection by Minawala- is designed to satisfy our globo-local clients whose international sensibility is tempered with experiences from all over the world. Designing these jewels with care; we keep our cultural identity at our core but are true to the multiple lives that a woman of today lives in. Jewelry that will be perfect for a Palace Wedding in Paris, workspaces in Dubai, a wedding in India or add a subtle sparkle to skiing in Geneva.

At the moment you have 4 physical stores. Are you planning on opening the new one? If you open a store somewhere in Europe – where will it be?

We are planning to open a store in 2018 at London.

What drives you to keep going further and further?

My passion to create wearable pieces of art and to see that look on a happy customer’s face - when she finds something that really touches her heart - is what keeps me going.

I would like to thank you for our interview. We wish you a lot of success!
