Description
Animal figurines have been an integral element of Meissen's artistic repertoire since the manufactory was founded. Each piece evokes an artistic style reflective of the era in which it was created, and bears witness to the perceptiveness and imagination of its artisan. This rooster is the work of an unknown artist from the mid 18th century, who portrayed the animal in a deeply contended pose. In a nod to its Baroque origin, the bird's luxuriant plumage has been painted in a particularly vibrant colour palette, and, thanks to filigree brushstrokes, is imbued with a sense of liveliness that matches its dynamic contours.
