Animal figurines have been an integral element of Meissen's artistic repertoire since the manufactory was founded. Each piece evokes an artistic style reflective of the era in which it was created, and bears witness to the perceptiveness and imagination of its artisan. The 'Rooster' from 1735 is thought to be an early figurine by the French modeller Michel Victor Acier, whose later classical works set an influential standard at MEISSEN. Portrayed in a cheerful pose, the rooster figurine has been adorned in a restrained palette to highlight its endearing appearance.
